Mark's Mega Miles For Age UK Suffolk

Mark Vaughan is raising money for Age UK Suffolk.

Mark's Story

Hi, this year I am attempting to run six races from a 10k to a 24 hour endurance event to raise funds for Age UK Suffolk. I am an experienced distance runner and have competed in marathons since the 1980's and have also climbed several mountains around the world including Mount Kilimanjaro. The six races I plan to compete are the Run for a Rose 10k in May, Liverpool 1/2 marathon and the ROC 24 hour challenge in May, Orwell challenge marathon in June, Ipswich twilight 10k in August and the Great East run in September. So in total about 150 miles! Age UK Suffolk is a local independent charity working with and for older people in Suffolk, ensuring that where needed, people have access to vital and sometimes life changing services and support to make a difference to them in later life. This is a charity that is close to my heart as I have used their support and advice for helping with the care of my elderly mother in recent years and they have been invaluable, having advice at the end of a phone is incredibly helpful and reassuring. It costs around £2 million to run Age UK Suffolk so in a small way by running a few races I would like to contribute to their funds. Any donation however small helps, remember we all grow old. Thank you in advance. I will post my results as I go.

About Age UK Suffolk

Everything that we do is centred around improving the lives of older people across Suffolk: • offering free, confidential & impartial help • a helping hand at home • friendship to combat loneliness • time out of the house for those living with memory problems It costs around £2 million each to deliver vital services and support, including Information & Advice, Befriending, Community Links, Home Help and The Chilton Club. As an organisation, we do not receive any statutory funding which means that we rely on the support of local businesses, community groups and individuals to support our work, as well as organising our own events to raise awareness of the importance of what we do. Every penny that we raise in Suffolk, stays in Suffolk.
